Silknet to broadcast Premier League matches

The Silknet telecommunication Company has obtained the exclusive rights to broadcast Premier League football and fans can enjoy the fast HD streaming of the matches. The season will be opened on August 17, enabling SilkTV users to watch the Liverpool and Stoke City game though the Silk­SportHD channel.

The exclusive right to broadcast the matches came about through the Integral Company via the establishment of the new sports channel. According to Bacho Chinchaladze, the Commercial Director at Silknet, the agreement with Integral entails a three-year partnership and the new channel was added to the SilkTV menu because of the high interest of football fans, who from now on can watch the football matches in HD quality.

SilkSportHD will broadcast 5-6 matches featuring Georgian play-by-play commentators each week. In addition, short reports in the Georgian language will be aired and programs will be dedicated to discussing news and highlighting play around the league.

Tako Ninua, the PR Manager at Integral, noted that after purchasing the license for broadcasting Premier League matches, the negotiations led to the agreement to air the games exclusively on the new channel – Silk­SportHD, which is owned by Integral and was granted exclusively to Silknet. “This is a great pleasure for football fans, as the channel’s content covers not only the re-broadcast of the matches, but also features many interesting programs,” she added.

According to the companies, a special program for lovers of gambling will also be featured on new channel. The show ‘Tipster’ will be aired 20-25 minutes before each live broadcast, covering preliminary scores and providing advice on which games to give preference to, and which team to choose. Virtual bets can be placed at  Internet games will be based on guessing the results of the National Championships of England and 22 other countries. During the days leading up to the the matches, the channel will air short previews of the game. Additionally, Silknet will provide monthly prizes to winners.

For the initial two weeks, the channel will be available free-of-charge to all SilkTV users in Tbilisi and in the regions. After this promotional period, customers will be able to activate the channel from their interface via remote control and will be charged 3 Lari monthly. Thus, those having the complete package of SilkTV, the new sports channel will automatically be activated without any extra charge.
