CPG builds new heart of Old Tbilisi

Print version Print version

Author:  Natalie Mchedlishvili

Capital Partners of Georgia (CPG) was established by an enthusiastic, young Georgian businessman George Svanidze. Together with his partners, Mark Haynes Daniell and Tom Singh, Robert Michael Vancko, CPG is investing millions of dollars in the hospitality and agricultural sectors.

Svanidze started investing in Georgia in 2000 by launching two development companies – European Building and American Building. A rags-to-riches success story, European Building received the coveted Developer of the Year award in 2006.

Svanidze was educated in the Netherlands. Today he is the CEO of CPG and head of the Association of Georgians in the Netherlands, where he opened two Georgian high schools.

At the moment CPG is developing the Mirza Shephy project under the slogan “New Heart of Old Tbilisi.” The project includes building a row of hotels, restaurants and cafes along two streets in old Ortachala. According to Svanidze, Mirza Shephy will become a fitting rival of Chardin Street in the city center after the project’s launch in 2014.

Author:  Liene Veide

Georgia Today: How is AirBaltic doing on the market?

Gregory Pomerantsev: We have been flying to Tbilisi four years. A little later we started flights to Baku and last year to Yerevan. If we compare all three destinations, then Tbilisi is the one that proved stable early on in the first year.

As for Tbilisi, every year we see an increase in passengers, which allows us to increase the frequency of flights. This year we increased flights from Riga to Tbilisi from two to five times per week by Boeing 737.

Of course, there are more passengers in the summer as it is vacation time and many expatriate Georgians come to spend their summer at home, but thanks to skiing and tourism the demand in the winter is also very good.
